The Best Christmas Cinnamon Rolls: Red Velvet with Green Frosting

If you are looking for the perfect holiday morning treat, try these tasty Red Velvet Cinnamon Buns! My partner absolutely loves anything Red Velvet, so these are dedicated to him. They are the perfect combination of sweet and cinnamon. The holiday colors also add something fun for Christmas morning. Whether you are making these for a red velvet fanatic or for the kids, these treats are so yummy! The recipe is super easy to follow!

Ingredients:

1 package Red Velvet Cake Mix

1 tablespoon quick rise yeast

1 1/4 cup warm water

2 cups flour

2/3 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1/3 cup melted butter

Cream cheese icing (I linked a great one below)

Stand Mixer or Hand Mixer

Dough Cutter

Pastry Brush

Instructions:

  1. Measure out yeast into a small bowl. Add warm water to mixture. Allow mixture to sit until bubbling (5 minutes). (If the yeast doesn’t bubble, your yeast is inactive and will not work.)
  2. In large bowl or mixer, add red velvet cake mix and yeast mixture. Mix on slow speed with dough attachment. Slowly add flour to bowl. Speed up mixer to medium and mix for two minutes.
  3. Spray large bowl with cooking spray. Add dough to bowl and cover with saran wrap. Allow dough to rise for two hours.
  4. While the dough is rising, mix together cinnamon and sugar in small bowl. Make sure to mix well.
  5. After two hours, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  6. Grease a 9′ by 9′ inch pan
  7. Roll out dough mixture on a floured surface to make a rectangle (make sure to flour your rolling pin)
  8. Melt butter and use a pastry brush to spread out butter over dough
  9. Sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mixture over dough
  10. Roll up dough into a barrel and cut into 9 pieces with a dough cutter
  11. Add rolls to greased pan
  12. Bake for 15 minutes or until slightly browned (these buns will fill your house with the most delicious cinnamon scent)
  13. Ice with your favorite cream cheese frosting. I added green food coloring to mine for a pop of Christmas color!
  14. If you are looking to reheat in the days after, pop in microwave for 20 seconds. This brings back the cinnamon bun to original texture.
  15. Enjoy!!

If you need a beverage to complement this recipe, try a hot chocolate. A mocha also pairs perfectly. I hope you enjoy this recipe! Let me know below if you make these treats.
